EHEREAL WHIRLS

Ethereal Whirls is a distinctive artistic style that embodies fluidity, motion, and transcendence. Rooted in the interplay of continuous circular forms, it symbolizes the eternal flow of energy, emotion, and interconnectedness. This technique creates a hypnotic sense of movement, drawing the viewer into a dreamlike space where the boundaries between the physical and the spiritual dissolve.

My use of whirling strokes conveys a sense of weightlessness, evoking the ethereal - something delicate, otherworldly, and deeply introspective. Whether capturing the human form, emotions, or abstract concepts, Ethereal Whirls transforms stillness into motion, depth into lightness, and presence into something almost celestial. - Leonard Amimo

NAYAVANTI

Nayavanti’ means justice, confidence and versatility. The inspiration is from the Suri Tribe of Ethiopia, agro-pastoralists who live in the Omo Valley.
One of the key traits he drew from it was in their unique ornamentation. It’s rarely visited because of its remoteness, and using this style he seek to explore the culture.

ACHIENG'

Achieng, Beamer of Light Crowned by clouded skies and whispered wings. She holds the hush of dawn within closed eyes. A prayer, a promise, a pulse of grace. Her skin, a tapestry of night etched in whirls of memory; Her spirit, radiant as sun through morning mist. Wrapped in petals and lilac silk, She blooms beyond the storm. Achieng, whose very name carries light, Shining quiet courage into the waiting world.

THE SILENT EQUINOX

In “The Silent Equinox,” two figures meet in a suspended moment where fire and calm harmonize without a single word. The male form, carved in deep reds and molten undertones, carries the weight of heat — the pressure, expectation, and unspoken burdens placed upon him by the world. Opposite him, the woman emerges in serene blues, her presence a quiet tide that cools, steadies, and restores. Together, they become a living threshold: the precise point where opposites balance, neither overpowering the other. Around them floats a luminous yellow depth — a symbolic underwater world where pressure is palpable, yet illumination persists. Within this golden silence, bubbles rise like gentle exhalations, the physical release that comes after holding too much for too long. Here, breath becomes metaphor: a reminder that balance is not loud, dramatic, or forceful, but something attained in stillness.

“The Silent Equinox” captures the fragile, powerful union of dual forces — heat and tranquility, strength and solace, the masculine and the feminine — revealing that peace is born not from dominance, but from mutual surrender. It is the quiet moment in the universe where two energies finally align, and the world, for an instant, breathes easy.

RIZIKI

Bathed in ethereal whirls, Riziki gazes outward with quiet defiance and contemplative grace. Her skin— an intricate tapestry of infinite curls— carries the weight of heritage and the resilience of dreams. Against the burning crimson of life’s trials, the emerald garment and beaded necklace speak of hope, culture, and the quiet abundance of blessings. The cowrie shell, an ancient emblem of prosperity, rests gently at her throat—a reminder that true wealth lies not in gold, but in the spirit’s endurance. In Riziki, blessings are not merely received; they are worn, lived, and carried forward.

DUALITY: THE ULTRA EGO

In a world split yet bound, two realms reflect each other’s soul. Shadows and light dance in mirrored harmony, each color a whisper of the same essence, yet distinct. Here, every swirl is a conversation — a silent echo between selves, a ripple across time and space, bound yet separate. It is the inverted world where fate intertwines, where one being’s essence hums in twin resonance. Two forms, one pulse — quantum threads of connection woven in ethereal whirls, revealing that difference does not break unity, but illuminates it.

ALUR

Alur is a member of the Suri Tribe of Ethiopia, agro-pastoralists who live in the Omo Valley. The green gaze in her eyes signifies fertility and abundance, reflecting the resilience of her tribe.

NGUVU YA USHANGA
A LIMITED SERIES BY LEONARD AMIMO

YIEYIO WA USHANGA (MOTHER OF BEADS)

She is the bearer of threads and colours, a woman whose hands have shaped beauty from silence and history from stone. Her beads are not mere ornaments but lifelines—symbols of resilience, kinship, and identity. In her, tradition and creativity are one, flowing outward in patterns that bind community and memory. Painted through my ethereal whirls, she emerges as more than a portrait; she is movement, energy, and the pulse of continuity. Her spirit radiates beyond the canvas— contagious, unbroken, powerful. She embodies the strength of Maasai women, whose artistry has empowered families and sustained futures, anchoring culture even as it transforms.
Yieyio wa Ushanga stands as a tribute to mothers of tradition, custodians of heritage, and creators of tomorrow.

AKELLO

Akello rises from the golden warmth of the African sun — her spirit woven with courage and grace. Dressed in hues of tranquil blue, she embodies emergence: the moment strength awakens from within. The conch- beaded earring rests delicately by her ear, echoing whispers of tradition and power. Through her gaze, you feel a quiet defiance — a reminder that from every dawn, a new force is born. She is both calm and commanding, a symbol of the woman who brings light wherever she stands. In her, the energy
of Nguvu ya Ushanga flows — a celebration of self, of roots, and of the unstoppable beauty of becoming.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a multidisciplinary visual artist inspired by the emotional currents and cultural narratives that define human experience. My work embodies a signature style—Ethereal Whirls—a technique defined by continuous circular forms rendered primarily in blue hues. This style evokes a sense of transcendence, movement, and introspection, transforming the static into the sublime.
Through series like Ethereal Whirls: Women in Blue, I explore themes of femininity, identity, vulnerability, and resilience. My practice is rooted in cultural storytelling and visual poetry, drawing from African traditions, surrealism, and impressionist influences. I believe art should preserve tradition, provoke thought, and connect people to their inner worlds.
I aim to produce work that doesn’t just decorate space but animates it with stories, emotions, and energy.
